Who We're Working With: Meet Geoff Karch

Where did you grow up?

“I grew up in a small town east of Cleveland Ohio. I moved to NYC right after college to pursue an advertising and media career.”

When did you first start distilling?

“After reading an article in 2013 that Craft Distilling was now legal in NJ I got intrigued. I thought man, it would be pretty cool to make something with my own hands. I decided to read up on distilling. I also signed up for an intensive training course from Moonshine University in Louisville KY. I practiced at home on a small 30 liter alembic pot still.”

What is one of your first memories with elevated spirits?

“The first thing that popped into my head was negative experience with tequila as a youngster, but that's another story.

My first memory was making Bourbon with my small pot still - from grinding the corn, cooking the mash and adding yeast all the time wondering if I was doing it right. I recall wonderful smells.”

What is one of your favorite memories in your distilling experience?

“One of my favorites has to be when we first fired up the big still in the distillery. Holy MuckleyEye was that exciting!”

What is your favorite spirit to enjoy with friends?

“I'm a Bourbon guy. I like to sip on a Bourbon with a big sexy ice cube and some bitters. A very simple but delicious drink.”

Anything new and exciting happening at MuckleyEye or Colts Neck Stillhouse?

“All the exciting things we're planning with The Laurita Group and some food trucks. We host Bingo regularly, and are looking to get into comedy. We're always thinking of new events to do.”

A cheers of gratitude to Geoff for sharing his story. Join us at our next event at Colts Neck Stillhouse on Saturday, April 13 to enjoy a Four-Course St. Patrick’s Day-themed tasting and a chance to meet the impressive distiller himself, Geoff Karch.
